Earlier this week, Apple released an iOS17.5.1 update to fix a very serious bug that caused deleted photos to reappear on devices, including devices that were allegedly factory reset. Some people have reported discovering images that date back to 2010 and have been there long since those images were upgraded from the original device. That's why some people thought iCloud photos might be involved in the glitch, but Apple says it's not. All the glitches came down to a corrupted database entry on the device's file system.

The problem was that the images were not completely removed from the original device. However, the company claims that the image files exist only on the device and have never been synced to iCloud photos. Apparently, the only way you can persist between devices is by transferring between devices or restoring from backups, including iCloud backups.
