Arc Search app gets stupid "phone" Search Gesture — How to Use it

If you weren't aware, the browser company has an iOS app called Arc Search. This week, the app received an interesting new update called "Call Arc"."The new feature allows you to do an Internet search using a gesture similar to making a phone call.

As reported in the Mac rumors, to use this new future, users will have to open the Arc Search app, raise their iPhone to their ears, and then ask questions.

When you move the phone to your ear, the search option is enabled. The Arc Search app provides verbal answers.

"Arc Search has a voice-activated search that is triggered by putting the phone to your ear and saying a query, just like you're making a phone call. With Call Arc, you can immediately hear the search results, accompanied by animated smiley faces! You can also click "Read more" to access the full Browse for Me results for each query," the browser company says.

While Arc Search already offers voice search, phone gestures are considered to be a fun way for people to use the app and get quick answers.

Launched in 2024/1, Arc Search utilizes AI to search and present search results. The browser is fairly simple, and the user can do the usual search. Or you can use the "browse for me" feature to get a list of AI-summarized results.

It also features a built-in ad blocker to help clarify search results.

You don't have to keep the phone on your ear like you're on a call, but you can continue to "chat" with the AI when a query is requested. The animated smiley face on the screen plays easily, holding the music before providing verbal answers.

Arc Search utilizes OpenAI's large language model. I have seen reports that browser companies are combining OpenAI's API with other models, but no other models are specified to be used in the app.

In practice, Browse for Me reads up to 6 web pages and builds a new page that summarizes the information found by the user in the query.

Arc Search is free on the App Store and requires iOS 16 or higher. The Call Arc feature is now available.
