Metaquest 2 and 3 have acquired travel mode and it puts Apple Vision Pro to shame

One thing I always knew while playing with my Metaquest 3 is that the headset would be perfect for in-flight entertainment, but the machine

For example, I got to try Apple Vision Pro in travel mode for a little bit, and the settings screen was behind me as the plane headed for the runway. It quickly took off with frustration when it disappeared into the air.

However, Meta has brought its own travel mode to Quest2 and 3, which aims to fix long-distance flight tracking issues, and the company is working with Lufthansa to provide a new mixed reality (MR) content experience.

So first, I'm excited to try this properly when I head to Computex2024. To enable it, head to the experimental features in the Settings menu and scroll down to toggle travel mode on.

2 big things happen at that point. First, if you're using free Wi-Fi that provides movies and TV shows you usually enjoy on your tablet, Quest will detect the same network and have a much larger virtual in front of you.

Second, if you have a game or MR app downloaded for offline use, the tracking algorithm can be useful, especially when describing airplane movements. It is adjusted so that it can be used in a variety of ways. Meta also claims that you can't even fool the chase when you're looking out the window. For now, this is limited to airplanes, but we plan to add more modes of transport in the future.

In addition to this, as we have mentioned before, Meta has partnered with LUFTHANSA to test it out to deliver massive amounts of entertainment, games, and more in an MR environment. As part of this program, business class suite customers will access the Quest3 headset this summer to experience:

This is the first for VR headsets and I hope other travel companies will take. It is suitable not only for business class, but also for headset users who connect to in-flight Wi-Fi. We all deserve better than the downright awful display we get at the back of the seat!
