Android 15 will introduce a landscape lock screen and a new quick settings menu, according to information

If you've ever been frustrated by the way Android displays certain UI elements in landscape mode, there's good news: in Android 15, the phone's UI appears to be more optimized and landscape mode is no longer a disorganized mess.

This is according to Mishaal Rahman of Android Authority, who found that the quick settings panel and lock screen have been reorganized in Android 15. All in order to make better use of the screen space made wider by the landscape orientation. This should mean less wasted space and more visual aesthetics.

Android 14's Quick Settings menu looks almost identical in portrait and landscape orientation. The difference is that in landscape orientation, the menu is stretched horizontally to fill the screen; according to Rahman, this will change, and Android 15 will select something closer to what Android 14 tablet users already see.

This means that the pull-down menus may be side-by-side in Android 15. Quick Settings on the left, and notifications on the right each time the menu is opened with the phone in landscape mode; Rahman claims that this version of the Quick Settings menu exists, but it is apparently unfinished and quite buggy.

But that's not all; Rahamn also claims that we may see a new landscape lock screen interface. This was first spotted in last year's Android 14 QPR1 beta, but was not adopted into the stable version of Android. In fact, Android has never included a landscape lock screen on a smartphone in its 16-year history.

In Android 15, the orientation of the lock screen may be the same as the rest of the phone. Again, the screen shown by Rahman is similar to those found on Android tablets like the Pixel Tablet.

Hopefully this is just the beginning of Google's optimization of landscape mode in Android. There are plenty of places where the landscape view is missing or simply doesn't look good; we can only wait and see what else Android 15 has in store.
