Coral color for Google Pixel 8a seems unlikely, but possibility of reappearing as official case emerges

According to recent leaks, the Google Pixel 8a will come in four colors: black, porcelain, blue, and minty green. If these aren't the colors you were hoping for, one of Google's official Pixel 8a cases might be right up your alley. Or it could be the latest leak.

According to leaker Evan Blass, there could be five different colored Pixel 8a cases. Four of them appear to match the Pixel 8a itself, while the fifth appears to be a shade reminiscent of Google's "Coral". In other words, the Pixel 8a may be following in the footsteps of the Pixel 8.

The Pixel 8 was released in four different colors as well, and Coral was not one of them. However, Google has released coral colored cases for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Presumably, the idea was that people who wanted that particular shade of pinky orange could buy a case and cover the phone's natural hue.

Nevertheless, the fact that Google wants coral to be available as a case color makes one wonder why coral is not also available on the phone itself. Maybe the leaked information is wrong and Google is trying to surprise us, or maybe there will be a mid-cycle color refresh, as happened with the mint green Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. But I am not entirely certain.

The images of the Pixel 8a and official case released by Blass look pretty official, and Blass has a history of releasing official-looking marketing materials just before a new model is released. Therefore, I believe that the color options we have seen are the color options we will get when the Pixel 8a is released.

I also don't think Google will bother to do a mid-cycle color change for the Pixel 8a. Not only has it never happened before, but there's a good chance we'll be looking at the Pixel 9 series in a few months, and it makes more sense to focus on flagships rather than $500 (I hope) mid-range phones. Google may surprise us, but we shouldn't hold our breath.

The Pixel 8a is expected to be announced at Google I/O on May 14. Until then, you can catch up on the latest news and updates at the Google Pixel 8a hub.
