Samsung Plans Further Updates to Galaxy AI, Video AI and Collaboration with Google

While recent software updates have brought Galaxy AI tools to more Samsung phones, and the older Galaxy S22 will get AI capabilities in a May software update, Samsung appears to be keeping an eye on developing more AI tools. According to new rumors, the smartphone giant plans to further enhance its artificial intelligence in an upcoming One UI update.

According to serial leaker Ice Universe, Samsung plans to focus the One UI 6.1.1 software update on video and artificial intelligence. The leaker could not share details about what can be expected in One UI 6.1.1, but said that "the key innovation in One UI 6.1.1 will be video AI."

Of course, simply saying video AI leaves a lot to the imagination. It is possible that Samsung's update will focus on how to use AI to make better videos. It is also possible that One UI 6.1.1 will focus on video creation and allow users to provide text instructions that Samsung's tools spit out.

In any case, this would not be the first time Samsung has used AI for video creation. The company already offers a feature in One UI that turns regular video into slow-motion footage. Called Instant Slow Motion, this feature may just be the tip of the iceberg of what Samsung has planned.

Whatever is eventually included in Samsung's phones, it is clear that the phone maker is still focused on AI after announcing a series of features with the release of the Galaxy S24 this year. And after partnering with Google to create one of these features, the "Circle to Search" tool, which is now available on Pixel phones, Samsung plans to continue its AI efforts with Google's help.

Rick Osterloh, Google's senior vice president of devices and services, recently posted a photo of himself on X alongside TM Lo, chief of Samsung's mobile division, saying the two executives were discussing AI.

"Had a great conversation with TM and leadership," Osterloh posted.

"Our partnership is stronger than ever, and I am excited about our collaboration on AI and the many opportunities that lie ahead for both companies."

Ostrow was unable to share how the two companies might work together on AI, but we may not have to wait long to find out. In addition to the possibility of future upgrades to the One UI software for Google phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 are expected to arrive later this summer, perhaps earlier than usual.

These foldable phones will certainly include Galaxy's AI capabilities and not rehashes of what is already available; new AI-powered tools may emerge, and some may take advantage of foldable devices. After all, Google has its own foldable update coming in the form of the Pixel Fold 2 to consider
