iOS 18 Compatible Devices - New Leaked Information Reveals All These iPhones Could Have It

With the imminent arrival of iOS 18, it's also the arrival of another stressful round of finding out if your iPhone is eligible for the new update or if it's been left behind. But a new leak from X's private account (seen by 9to5Mac) has good news for supported iPhones and iPads this year ahead of WWDC 2024.

In addition to possibly being pre-installed on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, iOS 18 appears to be coming to the 2018 iPhone XS, iPhone XR, and later models, including the iPhone SE 2020 and iPhone SE 2022.

The leakers also have something to say about iPadOS 18 support. According to them, all iPads from 2019 onward will be upgradeable, with the exception of the iPad Pro, which will also be covered by the 2018 model.

These claims corroborate earlier reports that iPhones from 2018 onward and iPads running on newer chips than Apple's A10X Fusion will also be supported. However, new rumors indicate that the iPad 2019 with vanilla A10 chips will run iPadOS 18, which does not quite match the original claim.

Apple typically follows a five-year rule to support older models, but 2024 will be the lucky year when six generations of iPhones (and some iPads) can move to the next update instead. This would be a pleasant surprise, as we had thought that due to the new on-device AI features supposedly included in the update, Apple would claim that some older models did not have the necessary processing power to run them.

WWDC 2024 will reveal whether this leak is true or false. This is because for the past few years, Apple has been the annual platform for announcing new software (and compatible devices) for their products. But we'll have to wait for the June 10 keynote to hear it officially. If you want more news before then, check out our iOS 18 hub for updates and speculation.
