There has been much speculation as to when the 2024 iPad refresh will take place. Rumors ranged from saying it would appear at the same time as the MacBook Air 2024 to late March or even in April. Now, another wave of speculation is claiming that we will have to wait until May.

There are two news items suggesting that May may be the month for new iPads: the first is a report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who had previously suggested that the new iPad Pro 2024 and iPad Air 2024 could be launched in late April. Now, an early May launch is favored.

91mobiles also discovered that two new iPads have passed the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS); we do not know more than the model numbers A28326 and A2837, but these numbers are associated with the iPad, suggesting similarities between the two. It is possible that this is the rumored 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

In order for a device to be sold in a particular region, it must pass through local regulatory authorities, an essential process. Typically, this is done only when the device in question is ready for launch, which does not necessarily mean that a launch is imminent. However, it does mean that the launch date is approaching, and perhaps within the next few weeks we will see these iPads pass through other regulatory authorities around the world, including the FCC.

The real question is why these iPads were delayed so long. Initially we expected them to appear with the new MacBooks, including the MacBook Air M3; Gurman claims that the blame lies with production issues, particularly the manufacturing and software readiness of the iPad's new OLED display.

Gurman claims that there will be four new iPads with Apple's M3 chip. The new iPad Pros are expected to feature 11-inch and 12.9-inch displays and will be the first iPads to offer OLED displays. An upgraded Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil 3 are also expected to make an appearance.
