Everybody loves a good monster fight, but it's even better when the monsters join you. That may be the lesson to be learned from the huge success of "GODZILLA X COMG: THE NEW EMPIRE," the latest entry in the Monsterverse franchise, which had the second-best opening weekend of the year with box-office receipts that exceeded expectations. Only Dune: The New Empire has already significantly outperformed the previous entry in the Monsterverse series, 2021's Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire."

But for those who can't see it in theaters, when will the latest monster brawl featuring Godzilla, King Kong, and an extra human supporting cast be available to watch at home? Here's everything we know so far about the streaming debut of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

It is difficult to compare "The New Empire" with "Godzilla vs. Kong. This is because when "Godzilla vs. Kong" was released in March 2021, movie theaters were only just beginning to open on a limited basis following the closures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The company then known as Warner Media promised to release all films released that year simultaneously in theaters and on a streaming service then called HBO Max. Thus, those who wanted to watch "Godzilla vs. Kong" at home could do so immediately.

The situation in 2024 is quite different for the company now known as Warner Bros. Discovery and for the streaming service Max (formerly HBO Max). These days, Warner Bros. blockbusters like "The New Empire" stay in theaters for 30-45 days to maximize potential ticket sales before being released at home. There is also a period of time that films are available on VOD before they are distributed to Max subscribers. Last year's Warner Bros. blockbuster "Barbie" stayed in theaters for more than 45 days before its PVOD release for home rentals, and it took another three months before it was released on Max.

The same 2024 Warner Bros. hit, "Dune," is projected to take mid-3 months at the box office for "Part 2": the same 2024 Warner Bros. hit, "Dune: Part 2," is scheduled for PVOD release in mid-May, and "New Empire" is expected to follow the same pattern, with rentals beginning in mid-May. It may arrive sooner than "Barbie," but it will take a little longer to land on Max.

In any case, summer seems like a good premiere date for Max. Given similar theatrical release dates and similar box office success, "Dune: Part 2" and "New Empire" should maintain their similarities for home release, so we can plan a home double feature of the two biggest hits of 2024 with Max this summer.
