Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 May Upgrade RAM, Display, Battery - But Its Chip Could Cause Problems

Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 6 may have some major feature upgrades from the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

The first big news from this leak is that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 may be split into Exynos and Snapdragon versions like the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus. This is a pattern that Samsung has followed for several years with Galaxy S phones (except the Galaxy S23 series) out of contractual obligation, but has not been seen before in Samsung's foldable phones.

Unfortunately, this could mean that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 will suffer from the same two-tier performance issues as Samsung's non-folding flagships. The Exynos 2400 used in the Galaxy S24 series outside the U.S. is a powerful silicon, but according to our test results, it does not quite match the power of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip.

Another major change is that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 will be available with a choice of 8 or 12 GB of RAM; Kro states that the higher RAM versions of the new Z Flip may be region locked.

Kro continues to claim that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 will use a 120Hz outer display, which will be as smooth as the inner display seen on previous Z Flips. However, he adds that this feature is "in development," so it may not make it to this year's model after all. The Galaxy Z Flip 5's 60Hz outer panel serves its purpose well, but it is noticeably not as smooth as the main screen.

Also, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 may improve battery life. This is a weakness of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and an upgrade here would be welcome. This may be provided purely through chipset (or chipset) improvements, but we also expect Samsung may up the battery capacity to further improve longevity.

With flip phones like the Motorola Razr Plus and cheaper upcoming competitors like the standard Motorola Razr 2023 and Nubia Flip 5G, if Samsung wants to maintain its place in our Best Folding Phone Guide, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 needs to be significantly improved. These rumored features, if accurate, would go some way to addressing this. However, we won't know until the official announcement, which is scheduled for June at the earliest.
