New iPad Pro OLED and iPad Air reportedly to be released in May

It's been a long time since Apple released the new iPad; 2023 marks the first year without a new model since the tablet first debuted in 2010; the 2024 iPad Pro and iPad Air 6 are said to be coming in March; and the 2024 iPad Pro and iPad Air 6 are said to be coming in March, The tablet drought was expected to end this month, but now it appears we will have to wait a little longer.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, he initially expected March last year, but both tablets are now set for May. The postponement is apparently due to two factors, citing "a person familiar with the matter," the company is rushing to finish the software for the tablets and the "complex new manufacturing technology" needed to produce the screens for the new models.

The report does not specify which model is having manufacturing problems, but it is almost certainly the iPad Pro. The next model of Apple's most expensive tablet will feature an OLED screen for the first time, and this difference from previous designs is likely the main reason for the delay.

However, OLED technology generally improves image quality, with each pixel lighting up individually, resulting in perfect blacks and tremendous contrast. In addition to this, the tablet is widely rumored to be a productivity product, with ultra-thin bezels, Apple's latest M3 chip, and support for the all-new Magic Keyboard.

Meanwhile, the new iPad Air will offer consumers more choices than ever before with two different size developments: the 2022 iPad Air is only 10.9", but the new model will also have a 12.9" frame.

This is a strategy that follows what Apple is doing with the iPhone: if you don't want to pay $1,199 for an iPhone 15 Pro Max, the iPhone 15 Plus will cost $300 less and offer a larger screen experience with fewer features. Just keep in mind that a larger iPad Air is not on the horizon, according to one rumor, so it may not happen.

Like the iPhone, the iPad Air will have drawbacks compared to the more expensive Pro: a cheaper LED panel, no 120Hz ProMotion support, a weaker camera, and possibly a slower M2 chipset are expected. We will soon know if the rumored specs are correct; if Gurman's sources are correct, all will be revealed in the coming months.
