For Belgian cycling fans, the Tour de Flanders is bigger than Christmas. The climax of Flanders Cycling's "Holy Week" and the second monument of 2024, the world's best classic riders will race 271 km from Antwerp to Oudenaarde in an epic race that includes 17 grueling cobbled climbs.

The build-up is over, and now it's time for the big one, the Ronde van Vlaanderen, which has been gaining enthusiasm since its opening weekend in late February, and now all of Belgium is buzzing with anticipation.

Departing from Antwerp, the first half of the race is flat. After 136 km, the route reaches one of three climbs, the Oude Kwaremont. A series of climbs and cobblestone sections, all of which will batter the riders and test their stamina and skills to the limit.

The Koppenberg, Maria Borestreit, Steenbeekdries, and Stationsberg are followed by the Teyenberg and Oude Kluisberg. Then, with only 13 km to go before the finish, the final combination of Aude Kwalemont and Paterberg will almost certainly deliver the killing blow.

Last year's winner, Taddei Pogachar, has decided to skip the race this year, so the favorite for the win goes to the in-form Mathieu van der Pol, who won the E3 Saxo Classic and finished second behind Mats Pedersson in Ghent-Wevelgem. Challenging Van der Pol will be Pedersson.

Under clear skies, the peloton set off, everyone wondering how they could stop Van der Pol from winning his third race and equal his record of three wins.
