The Pixel 8a could steal some of the Pixel 8's best features.

According to a recent report, the Google Pixel 8a may feature a 120Hz display as one of several significant upgrades.

This report comes to us from Android Authority, thanks to an inside source at Google. The most notable upgrade revealed in the report is that the Pixel 8a screen will support a 120Hz refresh rate and 1,400 nits peak brightness. This will bring it in line with the refresh rate and peak brightness of the Google Pixel 8 (though in our tests it only went up to 1,349 nits).

The leak also provides more information about the Pixel 8a's camera. According to the report, the Pixel 8a will feature the same camera setup as the Pixel 7a. This includes a 64MP main camera, a 13MP ultra-wide camera, and a 13MP selfie camera.

In our review of the Pixel 7a, we praised the camera but noted that its photos feature dark tones that may put some users off. Nonetheless, it is a frequent contender among some of the best inexpensive phones on the market. In fact, between the Pixel 7a and the Nothing Phone 2a, 200 photos were taken and they held up admirably.

This report also confirms earlier claims that the Google Pixel 8a will feature a version of the Tensor G3 chip from the Google Pixel 8. Tensor G3 is the same chip used in the Galaxy S24's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and iPhone 15's A16 Bionic chip, but it is a significant improvement over the preceding Tensor G2 and is more powerful than most chips used in phones priced similarly to the Pixel a series. The Pixel 8a's version of the chip is not made of metal but has a cheaper It is reported to be slightly thicker and run slightly hotter than the Pixel 8 version because it appears to use a plastic casing, but otherwise should be the same.

Finally, it has been suggested that the Google Pixel 8a will be available in more countries. According to reports, the Google Pixel 8a has electronic warranty labels for Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

One problem Google faces is finding an appropriate way to price the Pixel 8a compared to the Google Pixel 8. Google has not revealed the price, but recent leaks in the German market show that the phone has increased in price, which is disappointing news for the Pixel 8a, which is supposed to be a budget model.

The release date for the Google Pixel 8a has not yet been set, but it will likely be announced at the next Google I/O event on May 14 and 15. For the time being, stay tuned to the Google Pixel 8a hub where we will keep you updated on news and rumors until the release of the Google Pixel 8a.
