iPad Pro 2024 could be a significant productivity upgrade

If you don't like the reflection on your iPad display, the upcoming iPad Pro may have a solution: a new leak from a Weibo user named Instant Digital (via MacRumors) suggests that Apple will release its first and beloved iPad Pro with a matte display. This would be an important change for Apple, as the company has long released devices with glossy displays.

For those who like glossy displays, leaks indicate that it will stay that way. Matte displays will be offered alongside existing screens and buyers will be able to choose according to their lifestyle. Obviously, a non-glossy screen brings trade-offs in the form of a reduced brightness of the overall experience, but it is a sacrifice that is more than worth it if you use your iPad for extended periods of time outdoors where the sun is glaring.

Unfortunately, the leaked information does not reveal much about what kind of non-glare display technology Apple will use for the iPad Pro. nanotextured glass used in the Pro Display XDR and Studio Display It may be the same as that used in the Pro Display XDR and Studio Display. The biggest difference between nanotextured glass and traditional matte screen finishes is the etched surface, which helps preserve image quality whereas other types of matte screens often dull the image.

We will have to wait until Apple officially announces something before we can confirm what technology Apple is using. However, given that they already offer nanotextured glass in their desktop displays, it is not hard to imagine that it could be used in the iPad Pro. The main thing that may keep Apple from adopting nanotextured glass is that it will be more difficult to clean than traditional screens because it will grab oil and debris. This is not much of a problem for desktop displays, but may be a problem for portable devices that are taken in and out of backpacks or touched repeatedly.

Of course, matte screen protectors for the iPad have been available for some time and offer the same level of anti-reflective protection. If you already own an iPad Pro, this potential change may not be enough to convince you to upgrade. For those who do not yet own an iPad Pro, getting a matte display may be the catalyst to jump into the world of high-end iPad models.

Leeker also suggests that a new iPad model will be announced on Tuesday, March 26. This announcement is said to include a potential iPad Pro and a new iPad Air model to accompany its non-glossy screen; Instant Digital also stated that the Air could be a non-glossy display version, but could not confirm this for certain.
