7 Best Movies to Watch This Weekend on Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu and More

This weekend brings an avalanche of new movies to watch on the best streaming services, including Netflix and Hulu. But narrowing down what to watch from so many is no mean feat.

That's where Tom's Guide comes in. This weekend's highlight is the MCU's latest film, "The Marvels," starring the stellar trio of Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Velani. Also scheduled is a new sci-fi dystopian drama directed by Daniel Kaluuya ("Get Out" and "Nope"), Netflix's "The Kitchen," which has enough of a "eat the rich" vibe in its trailer to pique interest.

Meanwhile, Hulu is offering "Invisible Beauty," a new documentary about Bethan Hardison, the first major black model to break the color barrier in the world of high fashion. Here are the top new films available this week. If you're still looking for great movies to add to your watch list, be sure to check out these 7 new shows to watch this week and new shows on Hulu.

After a less than stellar box office performance, "Marvels" is finally available to stream from home. Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambo (previously in "Wander Vision"), and Iman Velani as Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, are back.

Captain Marvel takes revenge on the AI leading the Kree Empire, Supreme Intelligence, and then heads for an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary. As a result, the three's powers become entangled and they must team up to fight the next threat to the multiverse.

"Invisible Beauty" details the pioneering journey and character of Bethan Hardison, one of the first major black models in high fashion. in 1973, she was one of the first black models in the "Versailles Battle" fashion show, becoming one of 11 black models to appear for American designers. Since then, Hardison has emerged as an ardent advocate for black models, and her work is widely considered essential to ensuring diversity in the field.

Originally, Hardison, fittingly, did not want to be in the spotlight for "Invisible Beauty"; in an interview with CBC Radio, she initially intended to make a film documenting black representation in the fashion industry as a whole She said, "I wanted to make a film about the representation of black people in the fashion industry as a whole. However, she was told over and over again that the documentary should focus on her, and she realized that in order to shed light on an untold chapter of fashion history, her story needed to be told.

In "Kitchen," all social housing has been abolished in a dystopian London of the not-so-distant future. Gentrification has nearly triumphed, police brutality is rampant, and the bulldozers of privatization seek to stamp out the last independent neighborhood known as The Kitchen.

Stars Idi, played by Kane Robinson, and Benji, played by Jedediah Bannerman, are among the residents of The Kitchen. The film is directed by Daniel Kaluuya ("Get Out," "Nope"), who co-wrote the screenplay with Joe Murtagh ("The Woman in the Wall," "Silence with Horses"). Early reviews have praised the film for its blend of social realism and science fiction elements, resulting in a story that warns of the dangers of unbridled capitalist greed.

In retrospect, "Burn After Reading" feels ahead of its time. Directed by Joel and Ethan Coen ("The Big Lebowski," "Fargo"), this black comedy blackmails the incompetence and endless red tape of the CIA. When CIA analyst Osborne Cox (John Malkovich) is demoted for a drinking problem and angrily quits his job, a series of misadventures ensues, including blackmail, an affair within the industry, and the most inexplicable U.S. intelligence leak imaginable.

The lavish cast also includes Frances McDormand, George Clooney, and Tilda Swinton, with a large dose of memorable moments from Brad Pitt (the dim-witted gym employee duo Tweedledum).

"Next Goal Wins" is based on the true story of the world's worst soccer team. In the film, Michael Fassbender plays Thomas Rongen, a soccer club manager who was appointed head coach of American Samoa after he was fired as coach of the U.S. men's national U-20 team. At the time, American Samoa was best known for its 31-0 loss to Australia, the worst in international soccer history.

This Taika Waititi film is another example of divided opinion between critics and audiences. While the Rotten Tomatoes Critics' Consensus criticized it as missing the mark, audiences agreed that while not groundbreaking, this comedy about a group of misfits led by Fassbender was a fun and heartwarming sports film.
