Some Apple Vision Pros have cracks in the glass in the same location

A handful of early adopters of the Apple Vision Pro have reported unexplained damage to the headset's windshield, forcing them to spend a fortune at the Apple Store for repairs

It is unclear exactly how widespread this problem is, but as of this writing, there have been five separate Reddit posts reporting the same issue

Four of the posts contain photos of the familiar damage, and a sixth can be added to the list, as Engadget claims the same thing happened on a review unit

Not only is the location of the crack shared, but the accounts are unified by one very important detail: the owners claim they did nothing to cause the damage In fact, they claim to have handled the $3,500 headset in a case, with a soft cover, and with kid gloves This is reminiscent of the M1 Mac screen cracks that occurred overnight and without user interaction

The cause of the problem is not clear It may simply be that the design of the headset is putting excessive tension on the glass near the bridge of the nose, but given the stories surrounding the various testimonials, some speculate that it may be the result of overheating from charging with the headset in the case or with the cover on

Whatever the cause of the damage, it will be expensive if it happens to you, even with AppleCare Plus As we previously reported, a glass repair by Vision Pro is $799 by default, or $299 with Apple's extended warranty Sure enough, people reporting the problem on Reddit say they are being charged that amount for the repair, even though they claim they did not mistreat the device

Make no mistake, this is far from a widespread problem at this point Approximately 200,000 Vision Pros have been sold, and only six have been identified as possibly defective And even if 94 owners suddenly speak out with irrefutable evidence, that is only 005% of all purchases

However, since the Apple Vision Pro has only been on the market for 22 days, this could be the first sign of something more significant We will have to wait and see how it develops over the coming weeks and months
