Sonos headphones reportedly launching in June to compete with AirPods Max - priced $100 less

If you want the best wireless headphones, it may be in your best interest to hold out for a few months-Sonos will reportedly launch its first headphones by the end of the year

Last week, Bloomberg's Mark Garman claimed that the AirPods Max 2 was still slated to launch in 2024 Now, Garman says that Apple's biggest rival, Sonos, will launch new headphones in June, targeting a price point of $449 (about £350, A$700) This is $100 less than the current list price of the AirPods Max

This would be a delay from the April launch schedule we reported in November, but if both of these reports are true, Apple and Sonos' biggest audio products are on a collision course heading into this summer, and it's anyone's to win

But what do we really know about these headphones now?

Unfortunately, we don't have specs on these headphones (neither have they been officially announced by either company), but we know enough about them both to start a discussion

According to Garman, the AirPods Max 2 is not planned to be significantly improved and will probably only be a minor change in sound quality The biggest change is that the charging port will change from Lightning to USB-C, which will allow Apple to meet European Union compliance laws that come into effect at the end of the year

Meanwhile, Sonos wireless headphones are rumored to have a number of novel features, including the ability to play music over both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and sync with Sonos speakers by streaming music over Wi-Fi, Sonos wireless headphones will be able to play 24-bit/96 kHz high-resolution audio

If the AirPods Max 2 follows Apple's previous pricing structure, it is expected to be available for around $549 It is possible that Apple will look at this price and change it, but more likely Apple will drop the price of the original AirPods Max to $449, allowing the AirPods Max 2 to stay above $500

This is by no means the end of the discussion, and is merely speculation based on the rumors we have heard so far, but hopefully it is useful information that we can use before shelling out for soon-to-be-useless over-ear headphones
