Latest YouTube and YouTube TV Upgrades Focus on What Matters Most: Watching Video

If you are like me, you probably watch a lot of YouTube videos. Specifically, I watch a lot of YouTube videos on TV. Every morning, over my morning coffee, I try (and sometimes succeed) to watch all the sports highlights I missed the day before.

However, moving around on the video player takes me out of the experience, and nothing is more frustrating. Yes, I want to see the comments and what to watch next, but I am also still in the middle of watching the video.

Thankfully, YouTube seems to recognize this user experience problem. In a blog post, the streaming service announced that it is redesigning its TV app to allow users to interact through the platform's various features while engaging with the videos they are watching. This redesign can be seen below:

As you can see, the entire video remains viewable, with access to shopping, comments, video descriptions, etc. While we understand that YouTube wants to increase interactivity for business reasons, making watching videos a priority It feels right.

As mentioned earlier, the whole point of this TV app redesign is to allow users to watch videos while using YouTube's features. By reducing the size of the video, users can watch the video in full while looking for comments and viewing the video description. It also allows access to chapters, key plays, and shopping.

Admittedly, the shopping experience is not always a seamless user experience; according to The Verge, clicking on an item will bring up a QR code, which can then be scanned with a cell phone to complete the purchase. Still, it's better than nothing.

The redesign is not limited to the YouTube app on TVs; according to YouTube, the redesigned video player will allow cable TV subscribers to view stats, important plays, and live sports scores while keeping a full view of what they are watching. They will be able to view them. This is a big upgrade for me, since I always use key plays and currently search for highlights and get off the live broadcast.

YouTube says this upgraded TV app redesign will roll out to users over the next few weeks on YouTube and YouTube TV. The company also announced that it is exploring ways to introduce the redesign to features such as Live Chat, Fantasy View (currently a mobile-only experience), and Multiview.
