Microsoft has announced a new feature for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, FPS Boost. This feature, as the name implies, boosts older Xbox One games to twice to four times their original frames per second with the additional power of the Series X and S. [At the moment, this includes "Far Cry 4," "New Super Lucky's Tale," "Sniper Elite 4," "UFC 4," and "Watch Dogs 2," among others. If your favorite games from the last generation of consoles aren't here, don't worry.

Starting today, Xbox Series X owners can go into the "Manage Games" section of any of the above titles and click on "Compatibility Options." From there, players can toggle FPS Boost and Auto HDR. A quick press of the Xbox button during a game will indicate if FPS Boost is currently enabled.

Games like New Super Lucky's Tale will be boosted to 120fps, while UFC 4 will jump to 60fps. anyone with an Xbox Game Pass subscription can download New Super Lucky's Tale and Sniper Elite 4 with FPS Boost can be downloaded and tried. [Certain Xbox One titles developed by Microsoft, such as Gears of War 5, Forza Horizon 4, and Sea of Thieves, all offer significant upgrades on more powerful hardware. However, games like these and several cross-generational third-party titles required developer work to run smoothly; with FPS Boost, this performance boost is automatic. In consultation with developers, Microsoft can essentially improve the performance of any older title with hardware acceleration alone.

This will intensify the backward compatibility battle between the Xbox Series X and the PS5. At present, the PS5 is only backward compatible with PS4 games. In addition, PS4 games with improved performance on the PS5 are limited to only a few games, such as "God of War" and "Ghost of Tsushima."

However, the Xbox Series X has backward compatibility dating back to the original Xbox. However, it is only compatible with a few titles. In fact, we have listed 11 Xbox Series X backward compatible games. Whether Microsoft will make an effort to port some of our favorites remains to be seen.
