Xbox Series X Updates Increase Download Speed — Here's how

Users participating in the latest Xbox software beta have discovered a new button in the Xbox Series X UI.

This button is labeled "Interrupt Game" and appears at the top of the Series X download queue tab. This feature appears to be intended to solve the frustrating problem of downloads being significantly slower when games are interrupted.

This new suspend button allows users to take advantage of the Xbox Series X's quick resume feature while the download proceeds at full speed.

Previously, in order to get the fastest download speeds, it was necessary to manually verify that the game or app was fully finished, rather than simply suspended. This problem was exacerbated by the Xbox Series X's introduction of the Quick Resume feature, which allows users to suspend up to three games at once.

It was previously confirmed by former Xbox executive Mike Ybarra that the Xbox console automatically balances download speed and ping levels when users are playing multiplayer games to ensure smooth play.

However, some users complained that download speeds were too drastically curtailed, in some cases down to crawling speeds. However, the Suspend My Game feature negates this and seems to bring out the full power of the Xbox Series X even when games are suspended.

At this time, the feature is not available to all Xbox owners, and only those who participate in the Xbox Insider scheme have access. We expect this feature to be fully tested and then rolled out to all users in the next UI update.

For some gamers, slow download speeds are the bane of the Xbox Series X. Fortunately, to help you get your hands on Microsoft's next-generation console, we have a guide on where to buy the Xbox Series X and the latest availability information.
