Call of Duty Warzone update will finally address the game's biggest issues

The "Call of Duty" series is notorious for its huge file sizes, but the latest update will reduce the file size of "Modern Warfare" and "Warzone" by up to 33 GB.

This optimization is part of the Season Two Reloaded update, and while it will be "larger than normal" for an update, Activision explains that it "reduces the overall footprint." Additionally, future patches for Modern Warfare and Warzone will be smaller than this week's update.

In the latest Call of Duty blog post, "Players who own the full version of Modern Warfare/Warzone or the free-to-play Warzone game will see their respective platforms' overall file size smaller footprint," he explains.

The update improves the content management system "through data optimization and streamlining the content packs required for individual game modes." Thus, not only can individual modes that are not being played be deleted, but also more free space on PCs and consoles will be available.

Once the update is installed, the file size for Warzone will decrease from 10.9GB to 14.2GB and for Modern Warfare/Warzone from 30.6GB to 33.6GB, depending on the platform selected.

For players who own the full version of Black Ops Cold War, the file size of the Season Two Reloaded update itself will go from 7.4GB to 14.18GB; for Warzone players it will go from 52 to 57.8GB.

This is a negligible amount, especially for PS5 players with 667GB of usable storage; Xbox Series X players need not worry too much, as they can add 1TB of storage thanks to Seagate's dedicated SSD.

In celebrating the smaller file size, it should be noted that "players who wish to continue playing the campaign, multiplayer, and/or special ops will need to reinstall the optimized content packs.

The Season 2 Reloaded update will feature new multiplayer maps, modes, features, zombie content, new operators, weapons, and much more. More details can be found on the Call of Duty blog.
