Diablo 2: Resurrected's release date is still undecided, but that's great for eager fans itching to get their hands on the game. Players can return to Tristram this weekend when the closed alpha begins, but before getting too excited, there are a few things to keep in mind.

First, those who did not register for the alpha are out of luck. While you can register your interest on the website, there is no guarantee that you will be able to participate in future tests. Also, while "Diablo 2: Resurrected" will be available on PC and consoles, this weekend's technical alpha is for PC players only, beginning Friday, April 9 at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET/3 p.m. BST and ending Monday, April 12 at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET/ ends at 6 p.m. BST. Invitations will be sent out on a rolling basis, so check your inbox.

Players will have access to three of the final game's seven classes: the Amazon, Barbarian, and Sorceress.Diablo 2: Resurrected features multiplayer, but the technical alpha is single-player only, so download the client and must be connected to the Internet in order to participate in the test.

It is not possible to import old Diablo 2 save files, nor is it possible to carry over progress from the alpha to the final version. You would have to play Act I and II with the old in-game cinematics. According to the blog post, this is just a placeholder and the updated cinematics are still being worked on.

PC players who prefer to avoid the keyboard and opt for a controller can do so. While the alpha version supports controllers, it is not indicative of the controller experience on consoles. Furthermore, players are free to capture, record, and stream their gameplay during the test period, so they do not need to worry about NDAs or account suspensions.

At least one more test is planned in case players are unable to participate in this test. Players of the console version will also be participating in the upcoming test phase, so if you want to try it out before release, be sure to sign up.
