Xbox Series X Just Hit PS5 with This Killer AMD Graphics Upgrade

The Xbox Series X has received a graphics update. This is thanks to AMD's "FidelityFX" technology, which has just been added to the Series X and Xbox Series S game development kits (via VideoCardz).

Not only does this mean that the next generation of Xbox consoles will now get the same graphics boost as an AMD-powered PC, but it also means that the Xbox Series X will significantly outperform the PS5.

FidelityFX is AI-powered software that can provide many adaptive graphics enhancements for developers to include in their games. These include variable shading, image sharpening, ambient occlusion, screen space reflections, etc.

The bottom line is that the visuals of a game can be significantly upgraded without sacrificing game performance. Unfortunately, FidelityFX is a recent addition to the Xbox development kit, so it will be some time before all of its benefits can be experienced. After all, game development takes time, even if developers decide it is worthwhile to retroactively add FidelityFX enhancements to previously released titles.

There is no word on FidelityFX coming to the PS5, which will disappoint those lucky enough to have Sony's latest console. However, it is impossible to say that it will never happen. [In particular, the PS5 uses the same AMD hardware as the Xbox Series X, with a 3.5GHz Zen 2 CPU and a 10.28 teraflop RDNA 2 GPU. Therefore, there will be no need to worry about hardware compatibility issues.

It all depends on whether AMD and Sony reach an agreement and if the PS5 development kit will have access to the same technology. We can only hope that this happens sooner rather than later. Especially since there are some big PS5 exclusive titles on the horizon.

Those looking to restock the PS5 or find out where to buy the Xbox Series X should check the tracking page to see which retailers have more stock in stock.
