Resident Evil Village launched this week, and the game is a direct sequel to Resident Evil 7: Resident Evil, even though Capcom dropped its numbering system for the series' latest installments.

According to leakers, this title is actually part 7 of the trilogy starring Ethan Winters in Resident Evil 2. That means the passing knowledge of Resi7 sets you in a good place to dive into Resident Evil's village. If you play the game with its 2017 launch, it is likely that you are hazy in fine detail. Ethan is not the most charismatic protagonist the Resident Evil series has ever seen, but the bland Vessel is from Point A to Point B

Both characters are new to the franchise, and with a departure from the usual formula, they are ready for follow-up. Being trotted out shortly after their debut - the couple are married, and after Mia goes missing, Ethan sets off to look for her.

Mia ends up in a makeshift cell in their basement, and under the influence of Eveline, sends an email asking her husband to come to find her. And the game is in progress.

In short, after receiving an email from his missing wife Mia, a few years after her disappearance, Ethan sets out to find her. Spurred on by the hope that she is still alive, he heads to the depths of Louisiana alone, without any kind of backup. It would be too sensible.

What he found is the home of seemingly insane people, including Mia. After rescuing her from the underground dungeon, Mia turns on Ethan and he has no choice but to fight back — dropping his hand with a chainsaw in the process. The family is infected, too far to be saved at this point, and later transforms into the monster himself. Ethan escapes dinner and is chased around the house and grounds by Jack Baker, his wife Marguerite, and their son Lucas. Their daughter Zoe is the only friend Ethan makes along the way and guides him freely through various means of communication. Zoe is also infected, but managed to resist Evelyn's domination.

It all culminates in Ethan using 2 out of 1 serums including a cure to kill Jack Baker. The remaining serum can be used to cure Zoe or Mia, who has resurfaced and remains infected, but is not beyond conservation. After making that monumental decision, the gameplay switches to Mia's perspective and must save Ethan after the boat he was fleeing (Mia herself, or

in the meantime, Mia brings back memories of exactly what she was doing in the crashed tanker, where the event is currently unfolding. She finds and rescues Ethan, and the gameplay returns to him in time for the showdown with Evelyn. Ethan takes her back to the Baker Estate, where she eventually turns into a giant monster. Resident Evil Series veteran Chris Redfield shows up during the last boss fight to dispatch Eveline and takes Ethan safely, with or without Mia, depending on the choices you made in the first half of the game.

In short, no. If you, like me, decide that Mia's continuing to lie throughout your marriage will lead to these penanigans, and give Zoe a cure, it's not a canon.

Not the Village of Resident Evil, following from the end of Resident Evil 7 in the Zoe DLC, where the player made the same assumption, proclaims that Mia will be cured.

In fact, in Resident Evil's village, Ethan and Mia are moving on and raising a baby. Rosemary winter seems essential to the village plot of Resident Evil, but her exact role is still a mystery.

Resident Evil Village launches Friday, May 7. Capcom launched an early access demo for ps4 and PS5 gamers, followed by demos for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, Google Stadia and PC players.

The demo was then extended and ran until 5/9, 5pm PT/8pm ET. In Europe and the UK, the demo ends on 5/10 at 1am BST/2am CEST.
