Is Fitbit waterproof? Water Resistance for all Fitbit models

Is the Fitbit waterproof? Every Fitbit has a waterproof rating, which determines whether it can withstand a sweaty workout or a swim in the pool.

Most good fitness trackers have an IP code, which is a standardized metric to understand water resistance. Fitbit, however, does not advertise such ratings for its smartwatches and activity bands. However, Fitbit does not advertise the water resistance of its smartwatches and activity bands.

Not all the best Fitbits are created equal, so you want to know if your Fitbit is waterproof or water resistant before you test your Fitbit in the elements. You also need to be careful about the band you use. While silicone can withstand water, leather bands can deteriorate if exposed to excessive moisture.

Fitbit's product warranty also does not cover devices that have been exposed to water. The last thing you want is to ruin your new fitness tracker because you didn't know if it was waterproof before you ran in the rain or took a shower.

Here is a guide to the water resistance of each Fitbit model.

According to Fitbit's help page, the Fitbit Versa series is waterproof to 50 meters (164 feet). This means that the Fitbit Versa 2 and Fitbit Versa 3 should not suffer pressure damage when worn in shallow water, let alone during a sweaty workout. As long as you avoid deep sea diving, the Versa smartwatches are essentially waterproof.

Like the Versa series, the Fitbit Charge 4 is labeled as water resistant to 50 meters. The Fitbit Charge 3, one of the least expensive fitness trackers, is also safe for swimming and sweating.

It is important to note that exposing the Charge fitness tracker (or any other Fitbit for that matter) to soap, shampoo, conditioner, or other corrosive agents may reduce the water resistance of the device. Remove it from your wrist before showering.

The Fitbit Inspire 2 is not fully waterproof, but it is water resistant to 50 meters (164 feet); like the Charge 4 and Versa, it can be worn to record swim workouts.

Unlike other Fitbits, however, the Inspire 2's water lock is automatically turned on when you start swimming in the Exercise app. On other models, the water lock must be enabled separately if you want to prevent accidental presses due to water pressure.

Fitbit Sense is also water resistant up to 50 meters. So not only can this smartwatch detect stress, it can also be worn in the pool if you like to swim a few laps and relax.

The Fitbit Ace series for children is the only Fitbit model that is not fully waterproof to 50 m. The Fitbit Ace 3 and Fitbit Ace 2 are rated the same as the Fitbits above, but the first generation Fitbit Ace is only shower-proof. Shower-proof means that they can withstand splashes and accidental spills, but should not be worn while swimming.

If your Fitbit does get wet, whether intentionally or not, Fitbit recommends that you remove it, dry it well, and put it back on. Also, according to Fitbit's Wear & Care page, if the fitness tracker comes in contact with any liquid other than fresh water, "clean with fresh water and a soap-free cleanser (such as Cetaphil).
