Sony boss Jim Ryan broke the news that some of the company's most "iconic" games will soon be available on mobile. And they could debut on Android and iOS by the end of the year.

During a Q&A session at Sony's investor presentation (via VGC), Ryan revealed that the "journey of bringing PlayStation first-party IP out of consoles" will continue next year. We saw PlayStation exclusive "Horizon Zero Dawn" get ported to PC last year, as did "Predator". And now we see some of the other great titles in the PlayStation Hits collection leaving the nest and moving to mobile and other platforms.

"We will begin to release some of PlayStation's iconic IPs on mobile in FY2021, and while this will not lead to significant gains in FY2021, as we learn from that experience and increase the number of titles we release on mobile, the contributions from both PC and mobile will will steadily begin to grow in importance as time goes on," Ryan said.

Since the fiscal year runs through March 2022, this plan may not be realized until next year. However, Ryan's comments seem to indicate that first-party PlayStation games will be coming to mobile in 2021.

Mobile gaming is a growing industry, attracting more users than console owners. Virtually everyone has a cell phone and there are multiple devices in a household. Microsoft has already tapped into this market with Xbox Game Pass, which allows users to play Xbox games on mobile, PC, and Xbox consoles; like Netflix, it is a seamless service that can be accessed across devices.

We'll have to wait and see how Sony approaches mobile, but without an answer to Game Pass, it will be difficult to offer a comparable experience. That said, we look forward to seeing the PS4's best games come to mobile.
