Firefox just got a radical redesign - it makes Chrome look boring

Mozilla has released a new version of Firefox with a redesigned look.

One of the biggest changes in Firefox 89 concerns tabs. Tabs have visibly increased in size, and the tab in focus is now displayed above the toolbar at the top of the browser. Tabs have been visibly increased in size and now appear above the toolbar at the top of the browser. This is a minor design change and differs from Chrome, where individual tabs are displayed on the toolbar, making it difficult to tell if you have many tabs open.

The change was revealed in a blog post yesterday, with Mozilla's MJ Kelly explaining that "Firefox has a fresh new design that will help you get where you're trying to go online, fast and unobstructed."

Other design changes include new icons and typography, and menus have been reorganized and consolidated to make it easier for users to find the settings they are looking for.

This simplification is also evident in notifications, which are less intrusive thanks to a reduction in alert size, and Firefox 89 has completely removed alerts and messages that are not needed. Media autoplay is off by default and can be easily muted by clicking on the noisy tab. Media autoplay is turned off by default and can be easily muted by clicking on noisy tabs.

Users will be pleased to know that the improvements go beyond the new look of Firefox.

The most important of them is the Total Cookie Protection feature, which has switched from an optional strict setting to always on for private browsing; as Kelly explains, "Whenever a site deposits a cookie, Firefox locks it in its own cookie jar so that it cannot be shared with other websites"

.

The new Firefox is currently rolling out for desktop and mobile browsers. Expect to see it arrive on your device very soon .
