Mass Effect 3 Mars Rover Easter Egg - How to Find It

With the release of the "Mass Effect" Legendary Edition, now is the perfect time to go back through BioWare's trilogy and see what you missed the first time you played it. And if you missed the tremendously fascinating Easter egg of "Mass Effect 3," don't worry. After almost a decade, the developers at BioWare have revealed how to meet the robotic rover on Mars.

The information comes directly from Richard Boisvert, who was the cinematic designer at BioWare when "Mass Effect 3" was released. (He is now a technical writer at Epic Games.) Boisvert explains on Reddit how to find the hidden secret.

"Ten years ago, I planted an Easter egg in the Mars mission in ME3, and as far as I know, no one ever found it." At the beginning of the Mars mission, feel free to walk around and look in the nearby solar panel array in the following way." After the text, Boisvert posted a map. It is easier to just look at the map than to write out a description. One must walk through the solar pattern in a very specific pattern.

Mass Effect fans in the comments have confirmed that this easter egg works. One lap around the solar panel array brings you to the edge of the ridge. Looking down from the side of the ridge, you see a cute little Mars rover with solar panels, treadle wheels, and gawky "eyes" staring back at you. The rover nods in acknowledgement of your efforts. That's all the Easter eggs you need to know. Sure, it's not much, but then again, once you know the route, it's not hard to get it started.

The YouTube channel xGarbett made a video showing how to find Rover.

The funny thing about this secret is that it took nearly a decade to find. Mass Effect 3 was released in 2012, and in all that time, no one has discovered the proper path through the solar array. (Or if they have found it, they haven't shared it on the Internet.) Mass Effect fans love to post screenshots on the Internet, so that seems unlikely.)

However, one fan came close last year: Eurogamer noted that a Mass Effect player called Marcus Khaar spotted a probe on Mars, but only if he played with a mod that could take the game's camera out of its normal range This is only possible when playing with mods that can take the game's camera out of its normal range. To date, there has been no indication that players have been able to spot the probe in normal gameplay.

In any case, "Mass Effect 3" is a huge game, and stories like this one suggest that it has not yet revealed all its secrets. Perhaps there is more to be discovered in this sprawling, recently remastered trilogy.
