Google could announce a successor to the Pixel Buds 2 within the next month, with the possibility of an improved wireless earphone to compete with the upcoming AirPods 3 and Samsung's Galaxy Buds Pro.

That's according to a tweet from regular tech leaker Jon Prosser, who said that "new Pixel Buds" may appear "mid-April." The leaker did not clarify where he got this information, so it should be viewed with skepticism, but there is still a good chance that new Pixel Buds will appear soon.

The Google Pixel Buds 2 was released last April, so the 12-month gap between it and a new set of earbuds fits the standard technology update cadence. The second generation Pixel Buds we rated quite highly due to their improved sound quality, attractive design, fast charging, and very impressive Google integration.

So far, we have heard little about what the Google Pixel Buds 3 will be like. We are hopeful that the new set of truly wireless earbuds from Google will address the problems of the previous model, such as poor battery life. And we hope they will deliver better wireless call quality.

That said, the Google Pixel Buds 2 could remain the search giant's mainstream earphones, and these new headphones could be the "Pro" variant.

It is pure speculation here, but what we should call the Pixel Buds Pro could include heart rate monitoring and other wellness-centric features, ANC, improved audio, and even smarter Google Assistant-based features.

Of course, this leak may be complete nonsense. However, there are rumors that the Google Pixel 5a will be available, and Google has previously announced products in the spring.
