PS5 Live Stream: Watch Sony's official announcement here and now

It's finally time for Sony to announce the PS5, and according to PlayStation's official Twitter account, Mark Cerny, lead architect of the PS5, will be taking a "deep dive" into the technology behind Sony's next-generation console today at 9:00 AM (12:00 PM EDT). Deep Dive" on the technology behind Sony's next-generation console.

As for what this deep dive entails? We can expect a full reveal of the PS5's specs and a detailed look at some of the key features Sony has been touting in the new console, such as faster load times and ray tracing capabilities.

The big reveal of the PS5 will take place at 9am PT/12pm ET.

The timing of Sony's deep dive announcement is certainly interesting. Earlier this week, Microsoft announced the Xbox Series X news in a big way, releasing a video showing the full specs of the console, controller details, and features like fast load times and Quick Resume for going between games.

While it is possible that Sony has been preparing its own technological deep dive for some time, this announcement seems to be Xbox's response to telling fans everything they need to know about the Xbox Series X.

With the next-generation Xbox known to have an 8-core, 3.8GHz AMD Zen 2 processor, 12 teraflops of AMD RDNA 2-based GPU, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB custom NVMe SSD, it is likely that Sony will have a similar (or better) PS5. We already know that the PS5 will feature a similar AMD-based architecture and SSD.

Today's announcement is the first official news about the PS5 since Sony revealed the PS5 logo in January. That is, of course, if the launch is not postponed.
