Update: Shortly after the Thanksgiving release date was posted on the Xbox website, Microsoft's Larry Hyrb confirmed that the listing was inaccurate and that the release date remains "Holiday 2020."

In the shadow of the PS5 deep-dive event, the Xbox Series X release date was announced, although there was less flashy news. And it was announced quite quietly, just added to Microsoft's Xbox Series X page.

That release date? Thanksgiving 2020. If Microsoft is specific, that would be Thursday, November 26, 2020, the night before Black Friday.

This release date was discovered and shared by Wario64, who tweets a lot about gaming news:

This is within the range of the previously announced launch date of Holiday 2020; a late November release would allow year-end shoppers to get their Xbox Series X can be secured before the gifts are in full swing.

However, it turns out that this Thanksgiving release date may not be accurate. Shortly after this discovery, Xbox's Larry Herb (a.k.a. Major Nelson) tweeted that the release date for the new console was "inaccurately" listed on Xbox's product page.

Now that we know a little more about the PS5's backwards compatibility, 3D audio, and SSD expansion, we all want to know even more about when Sony will actually release that system and what it will look like.

Microsoft recently revealed the full specs of the Xbox Series X. They include a powerful 8-core AMD Zen 2 processor, a 12 teraflop AMD RDNA GPU, and a custom 1TB SSD for light game loading. It also adds a USB-C port on the back, a new D-pad similar to the Elite Xbox One controller, and a Share button for social posting (also found on PS4).
