Samsung's AirPods killer just leaked with a bean-like design

It looks like Samsung is about to feed us beans. According to a new report, Samsung's Galaxy Buds 2 look a lot like kidney beans, are very different in appearance from the current Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Buds Pro, and fit snugly in the ear.

A report from WinFuture shows the buds like blisters from several angles, with what looks like a small microphone port on the outside and an audio port and two metal contacts on the inside. It is unclear, however, how the new earbuds will fit different ear shapes, as they do not appear to have silicone tips or adapters.

Looking at the 3D renderings and images, the Galaxy Buds 2 (if it is called that) appear to fit almost perfectly in the ear. With no silicone seal, one wonders how well these earbuds will block out ambient sound.

Previous reports on Samsung's Bean earbuds indicate that the new "bean" earbuds will also incorporate fitness tracking features such as heart rate, speed, and distance, similar to Samsung's Gear IconX earbuds of a few years ago. In particular, if the Galaxy Buds 2 connects to the Samsung Fit and Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 smartwatches, Samsung's earphones will have another advantage over the AirPods, which have a number of fitness-specific features

As AppleInsider noted in early 2019, Apple itself may be working on a new generation of AirPods with fitness features. That was over a year ago, and while those features did not make it into the AirPods 2, it would not be presumptuous to rule anything out for the next iteration.

Like the current model, Samsung's Galaxy Buds 2 will have touch controls (although our review of the Galaxy Buds Plus found them a bit too sensitive), and at least 10 hours of battery life is expected.

WinFuture says the new Samsung earbuds are still in the testing phase, but we could possibly see Samsung launch them alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 20, and that could happen as early as August. covid-19 is a lot product launches have been delayed, so this date is still up in the air.
