Google Pixel Buds 2 launch imminent as Retailer article List

Google's long-awaited Pixel Buds 2 fully wireless headphones may be available soon, as they are now available for pre-order at retailer B&H.

The list does not include an actual ship date for the next-generation Pixel Buds, but given that Google has not announced a release date for the earbuds beyond "Spring 2020," this listing may be a bit premature, if it releases the second-generation Pixel Buds by the end of May, Google would hit its spring release window before it closes.

This is not the first time B&H has opened reservations for the Pixel Buds 2. However, it appears that these reservations are still remaining, suggesting that the Pixel Buds 2 will be available very soon, possibly today (April 27).

Other sites also posted premature listings for the Pixel Buds 2, but those were quickly removed. However, a companion app for the Pixel Buds has appeared in Google's Play Store, adding further evidence to suggest that the new Pixel Buds are close to launch.

The Pixel Buds 2, which Google simply calls the Pixel Buds, were revealed in October 2019 with the launch of the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. However, while the phones were released in 2019, Google did not and still does not indicate a firm release date for the headphones.

The pre-order page for the Pixel Buds 2 was posted by Abt Electronics and then rapidly deleted, but not before World Top Trend caught a glimpse of it. The pre-order page suggested that Google's next earbuds could arrive in May.

The original Pixel Buds included some smart technology, such as real-time language translation, but fell a bit short on the audio front: wires were used to connect the two earbuds, performance was inconsistent, and Google's headphones were completely outclassed by Apple's AirPods.

However, with a new fully wireless design and planned audio enhancements, the second generation Pixel Buds will likely rival Apple's upcoming AirPods 3 and Samsung's Galaxy Buds Plus.

The Pixel Buds 2 will also feature a smart ambient sound feature that adjusts how much ambient sound passes through the wearer's ears. [This is intended to ensure that the person wearing the Pixel Buds 2 does not feel completely isolated from the world, thus avoiding the situation where you step onto a busy street and cannot hear an oncoming bus.

If the Pixel Buds 2 has such a feature, it likely lacks active noise canceling technology. As such, it may fall behind when compared to the AirPods Pro and Sony WF-1000XM3.

But so far, Google's next-generation Pixel Buds look to be a big step up from its predecessors.
