Google Home is trying to get this huge upgrade

Next to Alexa, Google Home is the largest smart home platform, allowing you to control any number of lights, keys, and plugs simply by saying "Hey Google." However, the navigation of the Google Home app is not the most intuitive.

The latest version of the Google Home app promises a streamlined interface that makes it easier to connect to and control smart speakers and other smart home devices.

The revamped app (version 2.22.1.11 for Android and version 2.22.116 for iOS devices) separates rooms, groups, and devices into a "Rooms and Devices" menu at the top of the hierarchy for easier discovery. Simply tap the "Settings" icon at the top of the home screen to find the new menu structure.

In addition, the "Services" menu will provide access to streaming music, video services, and video calling. It will also include a shopping list and "Works with Google," a list of all services compatible with Google's smart home platform.

Other updates to the interface include a "Features" section that displays notifications and a menu called "Digital Wellbeing" that allows users to set limits on how often and how long they use connected smart home devices.

These changes are certainly welcome compared to current apps, but as we have noted in the past, Google needs to do more to enable the type of smart home interactions available in Alexa and in Nest, which Google has acquired and is integrating.
