6/4 PS5 Game Event Set — Everything You Need To Know

6/4 PS5 Game Event Set — Everything You Need To Know

PlayStation fans should mark June 4 on their calendars. That's because Sony will be hosting the rumored PS5 game showcase.

The showcase will start next Thursday at 1pm Pacific Time, 4pm Eastern Time, or 9pm in the UK, and the event will run for over an hour. This means that we can expect a number of games, including first-party console exclusives, that were unfortunately absent from the Xbox Series X's May 7 event.

The Sony blog post announcing the event is fairly brief on the details of what exactly we can expect at the June 4 event. Sony CEO Jim Ryan stated that the technical specifications for the PS5 and DualSense controller have already been revealed, and now it is time to show off the games. There was no mention of being able to see the final PS5 console design.

As for games we can expect, nothing was said here either; we have heard rumors that a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn may be in the works. We also heard that "Gran Turismo 7" will be a launch title for the PS5, and it would not be surprising if this game also has a proper showcase.

"Bloodborne" made a big splash as a PS4 exclusive, so fans of From Software's games will no doubt be excited when its sequel is released on PS5. Also, "God of War" was a huge hit on PS5, but that game was released in 2018 after a long development period, so a sequel to that game is not expected for some time yet.

There are already a handful of confirmed games for PS5, including Cyberpunk 2077, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Godfall, and Outriders. So expect to see a lot of footage from these games, as well as new tiles from third-party studios, and expect to see a new generation of creative and quirky games on Sony's next console.

One of the things Sony is behind on compared to the Xbox Series X is backwards compatibility. So we expect Sony to shed some more light on what we can expect in terms of backwards compatibility for PS4 games.

The PS5 showcase can be seen on Twitch and YouTube. We will also have more details on all the games and most exciting news announced at the June 4 event.
