When the Samsung Galaxy Buds Live (formerly Galaxy Buds X) was first leaked, images showed a pair of bean-shaped buds that borrowed the white, black, and cloud blue color options of the Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus.

However, the actual Galaxy Buds Live colors were just leaked and were a bit disappointing. According to leaker Ishan Agarwal, the Buds will not continue the cloud blue chapter, but will match the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 in standard white and black, plus a copper option.

Over the weekend, Samsung Galaxy Note 20 colors were leaked, revealing a "Copper" color for both the baseline model and the Galaxy Note 20 Plus. According to renderings of the upcoming phablet in its new finish, the color may appear closer to rose gold.

Aside from the custom gold finish AirPods, we have yet to see a metallic finish on a true wireless earphone. In fact, all of the best wireless earbuds we've tested have a plastic or matte plastic aesthetic.

This, of course, is because they are made of plastic, which is lighter than metal. There are ways to make plastic look like metal, but the result might be in-ear headphones that could be mistaken for jewelry.

I'm not saying that's a bad thing. Gloss might enhance the look of what is expected to be a sub-$150 fitness-focused earphone. However, compared to the Candyland colors planned for the new Powerbeats Pro and some of the fun finishes being rolled out for the Buds Plus, the rumored variations of the Buds Live are lackluster.

If it were up to me, I'd have all of the tech offerings coming out in the next few months in bright, optimistic colors. If it's not enough to show that all three people you know dye their hair hot pink, fashion forecasting service Sourcing Journal reports that interest in "hyperrealistic and aesthetic colors" is on the rise and that color "will be an impactful . will become a tool."

While we would love to see Galaxy Buds Live contribute to this trend, color options are a small factor in the scope of our full review. We would focus on comfort, sound quality, battery life, and how well active noise cancellation, if offered, works.

The Galaxy Buds Live will reportedly launch alongside the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 in July, and when the Galaxy Note 20 and Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 debut in August, they will be offered free or discounted price as part of a pre-order promotion when the Galaxy Note 20 and Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 debut in August.
