Google's long-rumored Android TV player, codenamed Sabrina, could be revealed at the search giant's Smart Home Summit on July 8.

This is just speculation by GSMArena and our own thoughts, but from the leaks around the Chromecast 4 Sabrina (and possibly the second-generation Chromecast Ultra), this streaming dongle device appears to be ready to go. Therefore, the smart home showcase would be a very good time for Google to reveal "something else" as part of the virtual summit.

The event itself will be developer-oriented, much like Google's I/O conference, where Google will showcase what it plans to do in the smart home space. This is likely to include showing off new developer tools and discussing how smart home hardware and software manufacturers can create products that integrate with Google's smart home technology and Home platform.

With executives from LG, IKEA, and Google responsible for partnerships taking the stage, it is likely that there will be more talk about third-party integrations with Google's smart home technology than new product announcements. However, Google does pull the occasional tech rabbit out of its hat, so it is possible that they will show off the Chromecast Sabrina.

The Chromecast Sabrina itself will be Google's first Android TV device since the Nexus Player; the Nexus Player has full access to the Android TV interface built into smart TVs. The company has promised to provide Chromecast with full access to the Android TV OS, which could expand Chromecast's capabilities to include a mix of streaming app groups and Android games.

Additionally, the Chromecast Sabrina's hardware looks rather slick, with a sleek stone dongle and a remote control with a touch-sensitive panel not unlike the Apple TV's remote control. The Chromecast Sabrina is also expected to support 4K streaming and have the ability to work with the Google Stadia game streaming service.

This device will help Google better compete with Roku, which currently tops the best streaming devices with the excellent Roku Streaming Stick Plus and Roku Ultra. It is also clear that Google's TV platform is gaining momentum, as top TV manufacturers like TCL are offering Android TV versions of their TV sets along with Roku built-in models.

We'll have to wait a week or so to see if the Chromecast Sabrina will be revealed at Google's Smart Home Summit. But in any case, the next generation Chromecast is expected to arrive sooner rather than later.
