Xbox Series X July23 Event Confirmed — What to Expect here

Mark your calendars, Xbox fans: Microsoft has officially announced that it will host the Xbox Games Showcase on July 23.

According to a post on the official Xbox Twitter account, a pre-show event with game presenter Geoff Keighley will be held at 8:00 am Pacific Time (11:00 am Eastern Time, 4:00 pm UK time). This will be followed an hour later by an Xbox Series X game showcase at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time. The showcase will feature first-party Xbox games, most notably "Halo Infinite."

Third-party games will also be shown (possibly including footage of the recently leaked "Assassin's Creed Valhalla"), but the focus will be on first-party games from developers under the Xbox Game Studios umbrella.

And those games will include Everwild, a nature-centric game by Rare, developer of Sea of Thieves, Pillars of Eternity, Fallout: New Vegas, and the much underrated Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II," could include a new RPG by Obsidian Entertainment.

At least according to a leak from Xbox Game Studios insider Klobrille, which is reasonably reliable.

Obsidian's last game was The Outer Wilds, which received fairly favorable reviews. However, the developer has a pedigree of making strong fantasy RPGs, so it would not be surprising to see such a work.

And since we know so little about Everwild, we expect Rare to elaborate on their next game. Whether we will see game footage or just a trailer for the aforementioned game has yet to be hinted at.

Sony set the bar reasonably high with its June 4 PS5 game showcase, so Microsoft will need to bring its Xbox A-game to the July 23 event. Since Sony showed off Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7, Xbox will have to fight back with other titles that showcase not only impressive visuals, but also game action and adventure in motion.
