Don't you want the PS5 to be white? There is hope

The PlayStation 4 was released in black, and the second color didn't come out until a year later. If that wait was painful, here's the bad news.

When asked by Summer Games Festival host Geoff Keighley about the PS5 and the possibility of additional colors for the DualSense controller, Eric Lempel, PlayStation's head of marketing, quickly dismissed the topic.

"We'll talk about it eventually," Lempel replied. 'As you just said, it's a difficult enough task to get the units out that we've indicated. But we will talk about it at some point."

This does not necessarily prove that new colors will be available, but it would be quite surprising if Sony was not at least willing to produce consoles and accessories in different shades. Including limited editions. Currently, the PS4 pad comes in 34 different colors, which has probably proven to be a very effective way for Sony to entice people to purchase multiple pads.

In addition to this, Sony's own leaked marketing materials already show a black PS5. Needless to say, PlayStation's VP of UX design was surprisingly candid on LinkedIn, saying that "there will definitely be some special editions" and that the PS5 "can also be customized in ways that weren't possible in previous generations."

But if you're committed to being an early adopter, you won't have much choice.

Amazon.com's holding page lists a USB-C charging wireless headset, a curved little media remote control, an HD camera for streamers, and a charging dock that can hold two DualSense controllers at the same time, all available for purchase around launch day. A number of other (white) accessories that will be available are also listed.

What the page does not definitively reveal is the price and release date. The rumor that spread last week was that pre-orders would begin soon, but Lempel kicked it off, saying, "I don't know where it came from." I think it's safe to say that we will let you know when pre-orders will be taken," he said, adding that there will be no "minute's notice."

Previous rumors have suggested a November release date, but if that is indeed the case, Sony will announce the price a little later, by past standards. Sony announced the PS4's price at E3 2013, exactly 157 days before the November 15 launch date.
