Google Pixel5 Leak Reveals Disappointing Design News with 9 Month Launch

Both the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G will arrive at the end of next month, on September 30.

This is according to Jon Prosser, a regular tech tipster and Pixel information leaker, who made this claim on Twitter and also revealed some interesting design information.

As for color choices, the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G each have two options: the Pixel 5 comes in black and green, with no option for white, Google's usual color; the Pixel 4a comes in black and white, with the white version will be available in October, a month after the other devices.

In a follow-up tweet, Prosser also mentioned that the Pixel 5's design is much closer to the Pixel 4a and Pixel 4 than previously leaked. Smartphone makers often repeat designs over and over, so it is not unexpected that a radical new look would be scaled back and more similar to existing devices.

As for the September 30 date, this is when we would expect the Pixel 5 to be unveiled based on Google's previous events. This is likely the same time that Android 11 will debut as a stable version that regular smartphone users can download and try out. There is also hardware that Google is expected to unveil, including a new version of Chromecast, codenamed "Sabrina."

The Pixel 5 will be a significant departure from previous Pixel phones for Google. It will be the first flagship Pixel to feature a punch-hole camera notch in its display (second overall after the Pixel 4a). Even if previous leaks were not accurate, this is a big change from the large bezels on previous Pixels.

It will also be the first without a flagship-level chipset, as Google has chosen the Snapdragon 765 instead of the Snapdragon 865 like many other flagship phones this year. But with a cheaper retail price and the same excellent Google photo processing magic, the Pixel 5 could be a force to be reckoned with for Samsung and Apple.
