PS5 Week in Review: First TV Spot, Killer DualSense Feature and Big Game Bullying

Another week has gone by without a PS5 price or release date being announced, but there is still some new information about Sony's next game console.

This week saw three important announcements directly from Sony regarding the PS5. On TV, we saw a commercial exploring the breadth of games planned for the PS5; on the PlayStation Blog, we learned how the haptic feedback of the DualSense controller will be utilized for specific games; and on the PlayStation Blog, we learned how the DualSense controller will be used to control the PS5. An interview with a Sony executive also revealed that the PS5 launch library will be "the best" ever offered on a PlayStation® console.

Below are the big topics you should know about.

While Sony is generating most of the PS5 buzz online, there are still plenty of people who watch TV. Therefore, there are still plenty of people who watch TV commercials. Sony's latest PS5 ad is a good old TV spot, which can be seen below:

In it, a woman travels through a variety of exotic environments, including an ice-covered, kraken-filled lake, a remote outpost in a war zone, and an eerie cave. DualSense is supposed to make games of all genres more immersive through tactile feedback and more subtle button responses, and while the TV spot doesn't show game footage, it at least shows how playing with DualSense is "different" from playing with the DualShock 4. It's a creative way to convey how different it feels.

In a companion piece to the TV ad, the PlayStation Blog ran an article on how the DualSense will enhance various PS5 games, from "Spider-Man: Miles Morales" to "Deathloop" to "Horizon Forbidden West, many developers weighed in on the differences between DualSense's haptic feedback and the simple vibration offered by current controllers.

Some explanations were more accurate than others. Some of the more interesting features include Deathloop's button lock when the gun jams, Ratchet & Clank's button lock when the gun jams: Rift Apart's gun has different ammo consumption depending on trigger pressure, Astro's Playroom can distinguish between different walking surfaces (metal, plastic, water) through subtle feedback.

Finally, we heard some interesting promises from Eric Rempel, senior vice president and head of global marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment. He claimed that the PS5 will feature "the best lineup in PlayStation history," taking into account both first and third-party titles. He also suggested

that more launch titles will be known between now and when PS5 launches (most likely in November, although late October to early December is not out of the realm of possibility).

While Rempel's claim is a bold one, it is worth bearing in mind that the PS4 was probably the only PlayStation console with an impressive launch lineup. If two or three strong exclusive titles were to emerge, it would rank high on the list of candidates for the best launch lineup in PlayStation history.
