LG New 163 Inch Micro LED Display can change Tv Forever

The LG Magnit is a great example of the possibilities of future screens. The only problem is that it is not something you can buy for home use.

LG's announcement of the Magnit claims that the massive 163-inch display, which is coming to the U.S., Europe, and several other markets, is the company's first micro-LED display and promises "groundbreaking image quality and durability."

Micro LEDs are a nascent display technology similar to the OLED panels found in many cell phones, laptops, televisions, and other devices, but operating on a smaller scale with one-hundredth the pixels. In short, micro-LEDs should make images sharper, more colorful, and visible from wider angles.

LG also praises the "black coating" applied to the surface of the microLEDs to protect them from damage and dirt and minimize reflection.

Running the show is LG's webOS, with an Alpha AI imaging processor helping to optimize images. These help the display's individual blocks work in unison, and installation appears to be surprisingly simple, thanks to well-organized cabling and the modular, non-contact arrangement of the blocks.

But don't mistake this for your next TV. This is a 163-inch display, designed for hotel and office lobbies and convention centers rather than living rooms. While it is clear that this product is not designed for the average consumer, the fact that Magnit is being marketed is good news for TVs, monitors, and other large displays.

This also heralds the arrival of similar technology for smartphones and tablets. We have long heard that Apple is developing miniLED technology for iPhones and iPads, but no products have yet appeared that use it; since LG sells its displays to other companies, perhaps in the next few years we will see LG-designed panels that take advantage of the great features promised by Magnit. will be a number of smartphones with LG-designed panels that take advantage of the great features promised by Magnit.
