Samsung Galaxy S20FE Gets Jump on iPhone 12 at September Launch Event

Apple may hold an Apple Watch-themed "Time Flies" event this Tuesday. The electronics giant announced that it will hold its third Unpacked event since early August later this month.

The latest event, scheduled for September 23 at 10:00 AM EDT/7:00 AM PDT, is billed as "Unpacked for Every Fan." While there is no clear confirmation of what is in store, the letter A in "Galaxy" is shaped like a phone, and Samsung's use of the word "fan" suggests that the previously rumored Galaxy S20 Fan Edition will be available.

The Galaxy S20 Fan Edition is believed to be a cheaper alternative to Samsung's Galaxy S20 lineup, which currently starts at $999. The S20 Fan Edition is expected to be several hundred dollars cheaper due to Samsung reducing the materials used in this phone. One rumor puts the price at $750.

However, the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition will not be much of a downgrade. Rumor has it that the phone will still use the Snapdragon 865 system-on-chip, which means 5G connectivity. The new phone's memory could be less than the Galaxy S20's 12GB, but it will have three rear cameras and a fairly powerful 4,500 mAh battery. Some rumors even suggest that the Fan Edition will retain the 120 Hz refresh rate favored by the S20's other lineup displays, but since Samsung is skipping that feature for the $999 Galaxy Note 20, it is wishful thinking might be.

Samsung's September 23 event will be the third in a series of smartphone launches the company has held recently: on August 5 it showed off its Galaxy Note 20 lineup and on September 1 it detailed the foldable Galaxy Z Fold 2. Meanwhile, we are still waiting for Apple to decide on an iPhone 12 launch date, as the Time Flies event, scheduled for September 15, will likely focus on the Apple Watch Series 6 and new iPad models.

As with previous events, Samsung will host "Unpacked for Every Fan" on its website on September 23.
