The contents of the PS5 box have been revealed — here's what you get

Today, Sony will host a PS5 event where the price and release date of the console will be announced. However, that didn't stop leaked information from revealing the contents of the box, which can be expected for both the regular PS5 and the Digital Edition.

On Twitter, gaming industry analyst Daniel Ahmad posted a screenshot of a list detailing the storage capacity and bundles for both PS5 models. While this is no big surprise, it does show that Sony is providing PlayStation fans with everything they need.

Also, there is no difference between the contents of the PS5 console and the Digital Edition box. Along with the main unit, the box contains one DualSense controller, an HDMI cable, an AC power cord, a USB cable, the base of the unit, and a user manual.

Of note is a free game called "Astro's Playroom" that is preinstalled on the console. The game is a 3D platformer by SEE Japan's Studio Asobi team, designed to highlight the advanced haptic feedback of the DualSense controllers, which can provide various levels of resistance to make the game more immersive.

The contents of the box come from a distributor in Hong Kong and may be regional. However, the contents appear to be fairly generic, so it is unlikely that the U.S. or U.K. versions will differ significantly.

In an ideal world, we would have liked Sony to include a pair of headphones that could take advantage of the PS5's 3D audio technology, even if it was just a temporary fix for the Pulse 3D Wireless headset. But that is wishful thinking.

Microsoft has revealed the price and release date for the Xbox Series X. However, it is not known what will be bundled with it.

Like previous Xbox consoles, it is expected to include a set of cables and one controller. However, it would not be surprising if instead of free games, a voucher for a few months of free access to Xbox Game Pass will be included.
