PS5 photos revealed the biggest console ever

Earlier this week we got the final dimensions of the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition.

And now photos of the PS5 have been posted by Taiwan's National Communications Commission.

To briefly review, Sony says the PS5 measures 15.3 x 10.2 x 4.1 inches (390 x 260 x 104 mm), which is larger than the Xbox Series X. Microsoft's console measures 11.85 x 5.94 x 5.94 inches (301 x 151 x 151 mm) and weighs 9.8 pounds.

Photos show the PS5 placed next to a ruler in various positions, and there is no getting around the fact that this box is a chunky affair. Note that, according to Sony, the PS5's dimensions "exclude the largest protrusions" in the design, as well as the base.

The PS5 is equipped with a number of features: an 8-core AMD Ryzen CPU, a 10.3 teraflops AMD Radeon RDNA-2 graphics engine, 16GB of memory, and a fast 825GB SSD with 5.5GB/second read bandwidth.

Excluding the disk drive, the PS5 Digital Edition makes the Xbox Series X look smaller. Measuring 15.3 x 10.2 x 3.6 inches and weighing 8.5 pounds, it is at least lighter than Microsoft's full-size game console.

The Xbox Series S is super compact compared to these game consoles, weighing only 4.25 pounds and measuring 11 x 5.9 x 2.6 inches (151 x 65 x 275 mm). However, it also has some tradeoffs in terms of power and components, including GPU performance (4 vs. 12 TFLOPS), less RAM, and less storage. Also, the Xbox Series S cannot play 4K games.

Pre-orders for the PS5 sold out quickly, so it is unlikely that console buyers will necessarily be intimidated by the PS5's size. In fact, Sony has apologized for the shortage and stated that more supplies will be available within the next few days.

However, one might want to check the Entertainment Center to see if there is room for a PS5 or PS5 Digital Edition.
