After some rocky launches, foldable phones are now really getting better. The problem is that they still tend to be expensive. Fortunately, deals like Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip are emerging, making foldable phones affordable.

As of today only, B&H is offering the Galaxy Z Flip for $880. This is a $500 discount off the top-of-the-line foldable on the market today, along with the new but much more expensive Galaxy Z Fold 2.

It is important to clarify that the Z Flip offered by B&H is the original LTE model, not the new 5G-enabled model that costs $1,449. However, the LTE-only Z Flip is almost identical to the new device, except for the lack of 5G connectivity and the new Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset.

That said, the Snapdragon 855 Plus in the original Z Flip is still very high-performance silicon, and one could not ask for more power. Furthermore, the Z Flip's dual 12-megapixel rear cameras are solid, if not class-leading, and certainly produce impressive results given the design priorities of the product. It is also an unlocked device, so you can bring it to any carrier of your choice.

I was fortunate enough to have an actual Z Flip in my hands when I first tested it, and the Z Flip is truly a breathtaking device, shockingly free of the breakability issues that plagued previous foldable handsets, such as the original Samsung Galaxy Fold. 1,. The $380 price tag seemed a little too high for most customers when it first launched. But at $880? That's more than $100 less than the price at which the smallest Galaxy S20 is usually sold.

The Z Flip won't get much cheaper on Amazon Prime Day. If you've been eyeing Samsung's compact clamshell foldable, we fully recommend jumping on this deal before it disappears.

However, if getting a foldable is not your top priority in your smartphone search, there are more smartphone sales to come, especially now that new models like the iPhone 12, Pixel 5, and Samsung Galaxy S20 FE are being announced, and especially through the holidays I'm sure there will be.
