Prime Day cell phone deals give you the opportunity to grab a great phone at a fraction of its normal cost. But despite the variety of phones on sale, from flagships to budget handsets, time is running out to take advantage of Prime Day price cuts.

We are seeing phones from Samsung, Google, and others being discounted even though the Prime Day discount window is about to close. Prime Day phone deals can vary widely by device. Typical savings range from $50 to $100 from the leading models, but now that Prime Day 2020 is in full swing, we're seeing even more substantial savings, especially on devices launched earlier this year.

Last year on Prime Day, Samsung discounted its latest flagship smartphone by as much as $300, while Motorola was aggressive in cutting prices on a variety of devices. This year, there are more Motorola devices than usual, so Motorola's devices are expected to be aggressively discounted on Prime Day as well.

Since this year's Prime Day will be held in October, some phones that have been discounted in the past may not be eligible for discounts on Prime Day. Last year, Google lowered the price of its Pixel phones, but with the Pixel 5 being released this week, discounts on that $699 phone are unlikely.

Given Apple's interest in the phone, expect iPhone deals to come in droves on Prime Day. The challenge this year is that Apple held its iPhone 12 launch event on the same day that Prime Day 2020 began, and while you won't find iPhone 12 bargains on Amazon, several carriers are starting to release iPhone 12 pre-order information, and Amazon is offering deals on iPhone 12 cases for Prime Day.

You can find discounts on older iPhones, but not necessarily on Amazon, and the biggest discounts are on the renewed iPhone 11. We're tracking the best Prime Day iPhone 11 deals, but right now the biggest savings at Apple has reduced the price of the new iPhone 11 by $100 to $599. iPhone XR has also been reduced to $499.
