PS5 Secret Weapon revealed to improve game Performance

Sony's PS5 looks to be as smart as it is powerful, with a brain that adjusts fan performance based on game performance.

Speaking to 4Gamer.net, Yasuhiro Otori, head of the PS5 mechanical and thermal design team, explained that they will gather information on game performance after the PS5 is released on November 12. PS5 will then adjust the large fan to ensure that the interior is sufficiently cooled and that the fan operates efficiently.

"As various games are released in the future, data on the operation of the APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) in each game will be collected," Yasuhiro said in an interview translated by ResetEra users. 'Based on this data, there are plans to optimize fan control.'

Apparently, the PS5 uses three temperature sensors on the main board to monitor the APU's internal temperature and adjust the fans according to the highest temperature on the silicon slice. This would be important, as the PS5's large size seems to stem from its huge internal fan.

Fan speed may not seem like the most exciting part of the PS5. However, being able to intelligently adjust or increase fan speeds could not only make the PS5 more efficient, but could also improve game performance. This is because by cooling the chip sufficiently, it can run for longer periods of time and at higher speeds, resulting in better frame rates even for the most demanding games.

Also, anyone with a PS4 from a couple of years ago has encountered the fans getting louder, especially when running games that are quite graphically demanding on the current generation of consoles

Games like God of War can make the base PS4 sound as if it is about to take off, and since the PS5 offers high-end audio performance and 10.28 teraflops of graphics power, Sony is putting its 3D audio technology Sony will not want console fans to drown out the effort it has put into 3D audio technology.

Also, the ability to more finely control fan speeds on a game-by-game basis will help keep the PS5 running as efficiently as possible. In a world where energy consumption is a concern for the environment, anything that allows us to use the latest technology without feeling that we are harming the planet is a good thing.

With the launch of the PS5 just a few weeks away, we will soon find out how well designed Sony's new console is and whether it can compete with the Xbox Series X. [19
