This big Nvidia RTX3080 upgrade has been canceled

Despite rumors of a 20GB version of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 and a 16GB version of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070, these two upgraded graphics cards appear to have been canceled.

According to Videocardz, two independent sources have stated that the Ampere-based upgraded GeForce graphics cards that were scheduled to be released in December have been canceled. This means that the GeForce RTX 3000 series will consist of three graphics cards, including the powerful GeForce RTX 3090, until 2021.

There is no clear reason for the cancellation of the boosted GeForce, but Videocardz speculates that it may be due to problems getting enough GDDR6X video memory for the graphics cards. nvidia has enough GeForce RTX 3080 cards on the market. Given the seeming difficulty in supplying them (getting one is still a problem at this point), it would then be a bold move to release more cards to the market, especially since the RTX 3070 is not even available yet.

Nevertheless, there was no concrete evidence that the RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 models with increased VRAM would indeed be available. All we heard were reasonably solid rumors mixed with some speculation.

Upgraded versions of these graphics cards would be one way to answer the AMD Big Navi and the upcoming Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards to be announced on October 28. It is expected that this could be the case. Meanwhile, the remaining new Radeon graphics cards could challenge the less powerful Nvidia GPUs.

However, Nvidia is very likely to release the GeForce RTX 3060 early next year, just as it did with the GeForce RTX 2000 series. And that graphics card could be a mid-range powerhouse that steps over the line between attractive gaming performance and competitive pricing. We believe this graphics card will be the one AMD is most concerned about.

We will have to wait until next week to see what AMD officially announces regarding their next generation graphics cards. And then we need to see what Nvidia will say in response. In any case, we hope that this will spark more innovation in the graphics card field and that PC gamers will be able to purchase more attractive graphics cards at better prices.
