Dead PS5 has already been reported — what you need to know

Sony is probably hoping this is an issue only with the PS5, but it turns out that the first of Sony's new game consoles to die an unexpected death is the PS5, which has yet to be released.

YouTube content creator Jeremy Penter, aka ACG, shared the news online. It started with a storage error, then problems booting the console. Then the whole system died.

As Penter stated, he was working with Sony to try to fix the PS5, but it failed during troubleshooting. As expected, this derailed his video production plans, as the PS5 (along with the Xbox Series X) is all console gamers want to talk about right now.

Penter also posted a complete video explaining what he knows about the demise of the PS5. He writes, "Hardware storage, external storage, had strange problems with the system coming back from hibernation.

He also states that he does not believe he is having the router-related issues that other YouTubers have reported.

As someone who was unable (and unwilling) to pre-order a PS5, this appears to be another risk of being an early adopter. As I mentioned above, perhaps everyone (including those who were fortunate enough to pre-order a PS5) is hoping that this is an isolated issue and not something that will spread.

That said, there have been reports of Xbox Series X units overheating, including one that blew smoke out the top like a small chimney after spending $500.

No such glitches occurred in the tests conducted for the PS5 review and the Xbox Series X review.
